NASA's Deep Impact alters the natural balance of the universe !

So while most people around the globe are marveling at NASA's Deep Impact smashing into a coment, this Russian astrologer lady, is suing NASA for ruining ' the natural balance of forces in the universe" .

Bai is seeking damages totaling $300 million — the approximate equivalent of the mission's cost — for her "moral sufferings," Izvestia said, citing her lawyer Alexander Molokhov. She earlier told the paper that the experiment would "deform her horoscope."

Damn you NASA !! According to my old horoscope I was supposed to be a millionbillionare by my 32nd birthday and now these guys have ruined it for me.

Now, my question is, and I am sure it will occur to other people: as an astrologer, didn't she predict this happening ?

Astrology, friend, is not a deterministic science.. its stochastic in nature.. an astrologer basically looks at the conditions and calculates the probabilities of possible chain of events.... I think the woman in question is trying to say that the mission has altered the probabilities to a very large extent (and probably she is a good enough astrologer to contend that the probabilities of good things, on an average, have gone down and that of bad things, on an average, have gone up sufficiently to justify making a hue-and-cry about the thing)

again, the mission was always one of the possible chain-of-events though its probability was probably too small to worry (and make a hue-and-cry in advance) about... in a statistically significant number of parallel universes, the mission would probably have not taken place in 99% of them.. needless to say, our dear universe happens to belong - just by random chance - to the 1% remaining.. :P
